Martin Kohlstedt's piano piece Exa was acoustically deconstructed by the artist Joev and was to be visually underscored with a short video clip. The polygonal 3D world reflects and illustrates the deconstruction of the original track in a single, unified take. All individual components of the visual world are influenced and altered by five different tracks of the acoustic rework.
The various audio tracks of the remix were analyzed to clearly define the moods in the different sections of the song. These moods were then assigned colors. The section lengths were then created as a pie chart, and the colors were assigned accordingly. This formed the basis for constructing the planet in Cinema 4D. Green sections represented land with meadows, blue represented water (the sea), and yellow represented the planet's desert. The different audio tracks were then assigned to various elements of the 3D planet, distorting it according to intensity and pitch. The clip is filmed from a fixed, observational camera perspective, with the planet completing exactly one rotation in the total length of the music track.
The motion design was created in Cinema 4D. The various instrumental tracks of the remix were attached to different elements in the 3D world using Expresso. This allows each audio track to control a deformation of the world. The rendered animation was then finalized in After Effects.
