The research window in Potsdam offers a glimpse into the world of science. Here, in collaboration with a larger team, an automated exhibition system has been developed that can be easily controlled using custom-designed touch sensors. This allows visitors to experience the analog and digital content interactively.
Within the team, my main responsibility was configuring the primary server system, Ubuntu. If a station failed, the server was able to reinstall and configure everything for its intended use after replacing the station hardware. I also developed the input hardware, using an Arduino and custom-designed capacitive touch sensors. The stations were installed with a minimal Ubuntu system. The only application they launched was a Chrome browser in full-screen/kiosk mode. This loaded a web application displaying the relevant content. Some stations had a touchscreen for control, while others featured large diagrams that provided interactive information when touched.
