Formfreunde has reimagined and redesigned gel electrophoresis. The focus was on the internal components, the technology that makes the device functional. A prototype based on a Raspberry Pi was developed, and the electronic circuitry was transferred to circuit boards.
The device is controlled via three buttons. There is also a web interface through which the user can monitor the process. Camera parameters can also be changed and adjusted here. If a USB stick is connected, images of the process can be taken directly.
The E-CUBE hardware was initially assembled and tested on a breadboard. Afterwards, circuit boards were developed to bring the E-CUBE to life.
The E-CUBE can be fully remotely controlled. All that's needed is a Wi-Fi-enabled device, such as a smartphone. The process can be started via a well-structured web interface and monitored live via the camera. Furthermore, the camera parameters can be adjusted to achieve perfect image results.
